The CUPE Metro District Council and the Fraser Valley District Council are excited to partner on a conference to mobilize not-yet-engaged members to build the strength and capacity of your local. This conference is designed for new members, young members, and members who have been part of your local for a longer time but have not had the chance to become more actively engaged and want to learn more about CUPE, what our union does, and
where they can fit in.
Registration for this conference will open in mid-November, more information and an FAQ document will come soon. Given the audience for the conference, we know that it will take time for locals to identify the right people to attend so we want to give you as much time as possible to do so.
Registration will initially be limited to locals in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. And will also initially be capped at 5 delegates per local. Hotel rooms will be available within a room block.
Topics for the conference will include:
– Intro to CUPE
– Understanding your Union meetings and Parliamentary Procedure
– Intro to Health and Safety
– Roles in CUPE Locals—there is something for everyone!
– Mobilizing Beyond the Bargaining Table
This is a great opportunity to find new people to take on roles within your local, to engage groups that are not actively participating in your union’s work, and to help people new to the labour movement build relationships with one another.
