CUPE National Women’s Conference | Mar 12-15      Register now for the CUPE Women: Leading, Organizing, Resisting conference in Vancouver this spring. Early bird pricing ends January 31st, 2023.

Dates: March 12 – 15, 2023   Location: Vancouver Convention Centre (East Building) at 1055 Canada Place, Vancouver, BC

Fees: $200 (early bird), $250 (standard)

FVDC | AGM | Jan 21    The CUPE Fraser Valley District Council‘s Annual General Meeting will be held in person, on Saturday January 21st. The Executive meets at 9:15 am, and the General Meeting begins at 10 am. Registrations are currently open.

 CRP | 2022 in Review     The Conservation Through Reconciliation Partnership has posted their 2022 in review compilation, with all the Indigenous-led conservation projects and initiatives that took place last year with links and resources.

Freedom to Read Week | Feb 19-25     Freedom to Read Week is an annual event organized by the Book and Periodical Council, encouraging Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed them under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The FtR website features a range of ways to celebrate the week, including posters and events, like the upcoming January 25th webinar Censorship is No Friend of Social Justice from the Toronto Metropolitan University (free; no registration required).

BCLA-BCTLA Solidarity | SOGI Curriculum     The British Columbia Library Association stands with the BC Teacher Teacher-Librarians’ Association in supporting diverse library collections that reflect and affirm all students’ sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. They have signed the BCTLA’s open letter in defence of the SOGI curriculum.

VLDC Education Winter/Spring 2023 Program     The winter & spring session brochure outlines the course offerings from the Vancouver & District Labour Council from February to May of this year, including parliamentary procedure, law of protest, and a range of WCB courses.

BPL | Picard Trust Awards | Feb 28         The Burnaby Public Library Board has established two $2,500 awards for Burnaby residents or current employees of Burnaby Public Library to attend a master’s program at a library school in Canada, with the intention of increasing the diversity of librarians at BPL and in the broader library community. As such, the awards are only available to individuals who identify as Indigenous, Black or a person of colour. Click here to apply before February 28th, 2023.

Lancaster House | Intensive Mediation Workshop | Mar 10          Program details are now available for the intensive mediation and collective bargaining workshops from Lancaster House, presented jointly with Toronto Metropolitan University, which changed its name last year to divest from Egerton Ryerson’s toxic legacy.
