CUPE LOCAL 1936 MEMBER PASSES AWAY DUE TO COVID-19 COMPLICATIONS

CUPE Local 1936 wishes to acknowledge the tragic death of Local 1936 member Warlito Valdez who passed away during the night, on Sunday, April 5th due to COVID-19 complications.   Warlito was an employee of Richmond Society for Community Living where he supported people with disabilities in a residential program.

Warlito’s passing highlights the work of Community Social Service Workers who have been deemed essential workers by the provincial government during the COVID-19 Pandemic Period.

Community Social Service workers are heroes in this COVID-19 pandemic, putting themselves in harm’s way when they attend work.  Warlito’s death illustrates the true risk of working on the frontlines in the Community Social Services Sector during this pandemic.CUPE Local 1936 would like to acknowledge each and every one of our members who take personal risks in order to support other members of our society.  You are the unsung heroes in this battle against COVID-19.

CUPE Local 1936 wishes to extend our heartfelt condolences to Warlito’s family and friends.  We hold you in our thoughts and are joined with you in your grief.

Please, take good care of yourselves, one another and please, stay safe.
